Tesco Delayed Again

Work on the new Tesco store in Tenbury Wells has been delayed until 2014. The store is likely to open by end of Tesco 2015, although this date is still rather vague and could be as late as February 2016.

Whether this delayed timetable will impact the planned public realm work is, as yet unclear.

I wouldn't hold your breath. Tesco has no spare cash for capital investments in minor developments which are unlikely to be highly profitable. In my view the CM site is unlikely to be highly profitable for TESCO because the net increase in TESCO trade in the surrounding area will not be that great when you take in to account the small size of the store plus migration of Ludlow TESCO and TESCO home delivery customers - plus the horrendous traffic problems that will ensue.

They may never actually develop the site and in a few years look for a buyer such as Bowketts.

Didn't Bowketts try before ?

We've been hearing the same in Stourport, but the public work's been done; so it might be the same for you.

I heard a rumour yesterday that Tesco have already offered the site complete with planning permission to Sainsburys who turned them down.

Seems unlikely. I believe Tesco have yet to exchange contracts with the land-owner.

Tesco will get built, but sadly there will be no shops left for them to get the blame for destroying town centres. The anti tescos were wrong saying that tenbury WOULD BE DESTROYED will the last one to leave turn the light out until tesco arrives to bring life back into the town
